According to the district club directory, 10 of the official clubs are in fact 501(c)(3)’s. Initially, the only reason the board gave for denying the club was that they believed Turning Point USA to be “partisan.” The board then claimed that the reason behind this decision was because TPUSA is a 501(c)(3), and the Director of Student Activities in the district claimed 501(c)(3)’s cannot be official clubs. Lyons Township has been put into the spotlight recently because the board of education is refusing to allow a student, Leslie Mendoza, to start a Turning Point USA chapter. I am very proud of many Turning Point USA students in the Chicagoland area who have been standing up for the mask optional court order, which has been blatantly disregarded at many high schools. Those demonstrating are being isolated from their classmates and forced to sit in empty rooms until they agree to wear masks. Students of Lyons Township High School have been protesting the mandates throughout the semester. The Governor also went as far as to make students wear a mask while playing sports and competing indoors.
The district consists of grades 9-12 and services roughly 4,000 students.ĭemocrat Governor, JB Pritzker, has instituted a mask mandate for all students and staff regardless of vaccination status throughout the 2021-22 school year.
The district is divided into two campuses, North and South. We will continue to partner with associate school districts, colleges, community agencies, and others to continually enhance student opportunities, improve student preparedness, and provide positive learning environments for all students at Lyons Township High School.The Lyons Township High School District 204 is located in LaGrange, Illinois.
